Spotify iPhone App Released

Spotify is a revolutionary program which allows you to listen to music for free, from your computer. All you need to do is search for the track and you’ll be able to listen to it, as quickly as that. On the computer, there is two versions – A free and a paid version. The free version plays audio advertisements every so often, which do get quite annoying. The paid version removes all advertisements.

Currently, there are over 8 million users of Spotify, just in Europe.

They’ve now finally created their iPhone Application version of their system. This allows you to listen to all of the music you want, anywhere you go. The application itself is completely free, but to use it, you have to pay the Spotify membership fee of £10 per month.

From the iPhone version, it has a caching system which can save around 3,000 different songs to your iPhone, depending on the size of your iPhone. This means you can listen to this music even without an internet connection! Of course, you can keep listening to music through your internet connection if you wanted.

There was some thought that this application would be blocked by Apple though. The first reason because it will lower the sales on music in the iTunes store, and two, because O2 (The mobile provider in the UK) disallow the use of constant audio/video streaming as part of their contract with Apple. There has been no problems so far.

Spotify are hoping this will make more people pay for their product. Currently, only 2% of their users are using the paid subscription, which still leaves them with 160,000 users paying £10 a month. Not a bad total.

iPhone AroundMe App Review

AroundMe is an application which shows you the nearest pubs, gas stations, hospitals, hotels, movie theatres, restaurants and more! If you’re on holiday or in a place where you don’t normally visit, this application will help you to find the nearest places to visit for all of your daily needs.

Let’s first look at the data this app gives. It is obviously collecting the data from a web service, it’s not done manually by the owner. The way this application collects it’s data is through Yahoo! This company provides data through it’s web services, also available in many other iPhone apps, such as the default iPhone Weather application. Because of this, we know the data is reliable. After using it personally, the data does seem to be accurate, despite maybe a few slight inaccuracies with the distances of the places. This is no fault of the creator though, and it does show an approximation of how accurate it is on the bottom bar.

Now, the speed of this application. It does collect the data remarkably quick. You open the application, click the globe icon in the bottom left corner, either use “Current Location” or type your own location in and it will find the places you’re looking for. Simply click the category you want and the data is loaded within a few seconds, depending on your internet speed. This is ideal for outdoor use where you quickly want to find out where the nearest gas station is.

The next thing to look at, finally, is the look of the application. Does it look nice? Well there certainly isn’t much to it, a very simple list with icons at the side of each category. Then again you have to think, does it really need to be anymore than that? You don’t need complex and beautiful imaging, it distracts you from the point of this app – Easy access to find the nearest locations.

AroundMe iPhone

In conclusion, this application is great for people who will be visiting other places quite a lot. It’s easy to use, very quick and simple. Recommended. Best of all, the app is completely free!

iPhone World Weather Application Review

World Weather is one of the many weather applications created for the iPhone. What makes this application different though is the beautiful icons.

The first thing to look at, though, is the information it provides. It seems that this application gets the data from WUnderground.com, which is different from other applications which simply get the data from Yahoo! Web Services. Is the data it gives reliable? Well it seems to be as reliable as forcasts get.

The next thing to look at is the speed of the application. When you launch the application, it does take a while to fetch the data, but this is managable. Once it’s fetched the data, it’s very quick. A simple swipe on the screen will switch you between locations, and hold the iPhone horizontally to get a full 6 day forcast. It’s a very easy application to use.

Now let’s look at the graphics in the application. This is definitely one of the strong points of this application. See one of the main screens below:

World Weather

You can see the beautiful looking image. If you tap the small arrow, you’ll be given a lot more information about the weather, such as the humidity, pressure, sunrise time, sunset time and the moon phase. It’s just some next extra information you might want to know.

In conclusion, this application is great for people wanting to see the latest weather and weather forcasts in a very organised and nice-looking fashion. You can purchase this application from the Apple App Store, through iTunes on your computer or on the App Store application on your iPod Touch or iPhone.
